Attract Part Two opens tomorrow evening, tomorrow being Sunday February 24th. Following on from what we would say was a mostly rather successful first physical Cultivate group show of 2019, we’re putting together one of our occasional on-line Cultivate shows/ Attract Part Two will once again be a carefully curated on-llne show, it will open via both the Cultivate Gallery website and the Organ website at www,organthing.com at 6pm on Sunday February 24th. The show will feature art submitted by artists responding to the open call as well as artists personally invited to take part
When we put the show together (for we have put it together now, it is all ready to go live tomorrow, when we put it together, we thought we didn’t really need a theme to the show, we just wanted exciting stimulating art, we knew we wanted the show to flow as one whole thing, we will wanted the images of the work to be strong and exciting, we were very picky about the selection and the quality of the images (some things really work in terms of on-line show, other things simply don’t). We did plan to lean towards paintings and painters this time but hey, if someone sent in an exciting image of a piece of sculpture or a piece of textile art or an installation then fine, if excited then in it goes – the one thing we really didn’t want was actual photography, just well taken photographs of your work, of your paintings, well besides Sofia Martins GRay but then she paints with her camera.
So the show is ready to go now, some of the art came in via an open call, some of the art is from invited artists, the line up looks like this; ANNABELLE LOSA, BEN FENTON, DAVID C. HARRIS, DEB COVELL, E. ZHANG , EMMA HARVEY, HEDLEY ROBERTS, JAMES BELL, JOSEPH SAKOILSKY, JULIE UMERLE, KATRINA BALUNOVA, LISA V ROBINSON, MARY T.SPENCE, PAUL SAKOILSKY, PHILL HOPKINS, ROMI CATALAN , SEAN WORRALL, SOFIA MARTINS GRAY, STELLA WHALLEY, STEPHEN BUCKERIDGE, SUSAN BANKS, SUZIE PINDAR, TETE DE ALENCAR, TONY BERKMAN, VESNA PARCHET, YASMINE ROBINSON and YULIA ROBINSON
Cultivate is a London based thing and what we do mostly involves London art spaces and London artists but we do like to reach out beyond the capital with our on-line shows now and again. Once the shows go live they stay up on-line to be viewed from anywhere around the globe. So far there has been five Cultivate on-line shows, each one has enjoyed big viewing numbers on the opening night and during the days and weeks that followed and each one continues to be viewed on a daily basis by visitors from all over the world. The on-line shows are of course no real substitute for a physical gallery show where the texture of a painting can live and breath or a piece of sculpture can be walked around again and again, but an on-line show can be a very positive thing, an on-line can help fuel the need to know more about an artist, the links are the important things and we rather like the idea that someone in California can view the work of an artist based in say North Wales or New Zealand or Argentina via the websites of a gallery and a magazine that ate both based here in London – no substitute for physical shows but on-like shows, when they’re done well, can be very positive things, these are the times we live in, let’s embrace them, on-line shows are positive things, come get involved.. The show goes live tomorrow evening, we hop you might take the time to have a look…
Meanwhile the next two physical galleries shows see us return to Columbia Road and the flower market and just over there in E2 and that only greengrocer shop that is now a gallery. We like that fact that the old till is still there, we like the fact the shop awning is still there and we get to wind it down every morning.
