Where were we? The non stop operation and the need to do it our way and not by the book as worshipped by those who just did a degree in how to hang a show that they just want to invite their mates to. We want everyone at our shows, not just out mates we went to art school with, I spoke to someone at a gallery the other day, she said she never listed her shows, “the wrong sort of people might come”, I haven’t bothered going back to her East London gallery since, I see her sitting there in her empty space with the door locked and no sign outside. This week we’re off to Crystal Palace…

CULTIVATE presents Explore – A Group Show.

Up next from Cultivate in terms of physical art shows is another long weekend take over of the glorious DIY space that is Free The Gallery over in Crystal Palace, London SE19 3AN.

The exhibition/event, Explore, will run from the evening of Friday April 10th until Sunday April 12th. Entry is free, everyone is welcome, no need to get on lists and all that nonsense

The beautiful space isn’t going to be to everyone’s taste, we are NOT talking formal white cubes here, this is a link to photos of the last time Cultivate took over the space in the Summer of 2024. Personally I loved the feel of Free The Gallery, the space is in a building that is pretty much falling down in a yard full of junk stalls and vintage clothing/antique/vinyl dealers and on Saturdays a busy alternative food market. Our plan is to hang a show on the Friday afternoon and then open that evening with a semi-formal exhibition, the opening night will run from 6pm until 8pm, an opening night on the Friday, Organ DJs and such, The exhibition will then run 11am until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday, while the exhibition is on the walls, we’ll run an art market indoors in the space between 11am and 4pm while all all the other things happening outside the with the markets in the yard and the record stalls and such in other parts of the building. The group show will carry on on Sunday

The event happens at Free The Gallery. the space is down the hill in a brilliant old building at the foot of Haynes Lane, Crystal Palace, London, SE19 3AN. Here’s another #43SecondFilm…
