ARTISTS COME DROP FREE ART, PEOPLE COME GET FREE ART…. FREE ART FRIDAY this week at CULTIVATE, HOW DOES IT WORK?
So this week we have the week-long TEN show and the FREE ART FRIDAY event, another busy week this week at Cultivate, walking it rather than just (getting paid to) talk about it while riding around on buses. TEN has already been covered here, TEN opens on Thursday evening (number of openings down Vyner Street this Thursday evening actually, the street Is always better when there’s more than one opening to explore don’t you think?).
Our first formally organised (rather than just random regular) Free Art Friday at Cultivate happens at the end of this week…
We’re being asked lots of questions…. Here’s how we hope it will unfold on Friday (and throughout the weekend
Time for another Free Art Friday on our corner of the street, coming up on Friday 15th Feb, we have another of our Free Art days. We’ve been holding them since our art space opened. Artists have informally been leaving free art outside, or indeed inside the gallery on most Fridays. Now and again we like to get a little more formal about it and issue an invitation and publicise things a little. This time we’ve thrown out the invite a little further than usual, thrown it out to the ever growing international Free Art movement and invited artists from all over the world to either bring their free art to Cultivate in person or to mail it in for us to put outside (or inside if the weather isn’t good) on the day.
So far packages have arrived from as far and wide as Rome, Tel Aviv, Manchester, Detroit, Texas, Oakland California, Cardiff and well, far too many place to try and list them all for fear of forgetting just one and offending anyone (everything will be documented on the day, watch this space sometime next week, events will be filmed and photographed)

FREE ART AT CULTIVATE (2012)
From Midday until 6pm on Friday February 15th, artists are invited to come down to the gallery and leave art with is to put outside. People are invited to come along and take part and take the free art that has been left. The only thing we ask is that people respect this and only take one piece each please. The leaving of the art will be staggered throughout the afternoon. Some of the art will be right outside, some might be hidden around the street (if the weather isn’t friendly then you’ll find it all inside Cultivate, rain will not stop play). Any art left when we close at 6pm on Friday will be taken in and then left out again during gallery opening hours over the weekend.
Artists can bring art down to the gallery on the Friday during the event (or before hand on the Wednesday or Thursday and leave it with us, no art will be put out on the street until Friday afternoon) We’re open all day on Wednesday and Thursday, 11.30am until 6pm, we’re also open 6pm until 9pm on Thursday for the opening of our Ten show
We did say we’d list artists taking part here on-line before hand but frankly there’s so many e.mails, packages, phone calls and conversations flying around our ears that we can’t keep up with it all We will on the day though, if you are an artist taking part make sure you come talk to us and make sure wr have your name and such… and yes there, we believe, some people choosing to leave work anonymously… if you do want it documented, talk to us on the day….
