BANG! AN UPDATE, IT IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT. MORE FREE ART? YEASTIE GIRLS, SPRING OFFENSIVE? EXCITE US!
What is BANG!? We put out the BANG! Call for artists a couple of weeks ago, we kind of hoped you’d be ignited by the blank canvas of an idea, the notion of us just saying “Bang!” and letting you come to us with ideas, paintings, that you’d excite us enough to want you to be part of it… A little more than us just coming up with the entire plan and you just submitting work that fits in…. Bang, it can be anything, Bang, hit us with it! Excite us with your work, if it does, then bang….! Come on, excite us! Make us want to share you art with the people coming down the street…

EMMA BUGGY’S NIPPLES
WE WANT YOU TO EXCITE US, COME ON!
And yes, I guess it has to be ON with a bang rather than out with a bang, we battle on, “Money never made anything beautiful… people did!” ~ Jonas Mekas.
We won’t deny keeping it all going is tough, and right now it is only the money made from our own sales that are keeping the doors open, everything is going back in to the Cultivate pot from our personal sales, have you see the state of my one surviving pair of shoes!

FREE ART THURSDAY, CULTIVATE, November 2011
Last week’s Free Art Friday event wasn’t quite the wash out we expected when we looked out of the window on the morning of the event and then checked the Met. Office rain radar to see nothing but heavy rain predicted for the day. Work still arrived outside, people still came along to search for it, big apologies to the person who brought along the really good looking big (big) canvas piece all wrapped up in protective plastic – looked out of the Cultivate window and there it was across the street with a “free art, please take” notice on it, and someone did, before we could grab a camera, gone as quickly as it arrived, no documentation and no clue who left it or who took it., sorry, we missed documenting it. We did document some of the day and we’ve put up a FREE ART FRIDAY – LONDON Facebook page so please do go ‘like’ it to keep up with news, photos and more…
We’ve been putting out free art on a Friday throughout the year at Cultivate, we’ve organised a number of more formally publicised Free Art days. Now I really don’t want to make Cultivate the centre of it all as far as free art is concerned, no no no, happy to be a focal point for those who want it. Personally I’ve been leaving free art out on the street for ages, way before Cultivate took over my life and ate up every hour and more.. Free art left on trains, at bus stops, in trees, galleries, on the South Bank, in telephone boxes. This isn’t about me (Sean) or Cultivate though, Free Art is about whoever wants to join in, no one started Free Art Friday (or Free Art Thursday as it once was), it just evolved naturally, organically, virally, as these things tend to do in the undergrowth… Free Art Friday London, Free Art Friday Detroit, Free Art Friday Brisbane, Free Art Friday Blackpool, Free Art Friday Wherever You Are…. So Free Art Friday at Cultivate last week wasn’t a wash out, we’ll carry on inviting you to come leave/find free art every Friday at Cultivate, we won’t be shouting about it or advertising it every week, we’ll just let it happen… it is what YOU make of it…
So 2013 at Cultivate, on we go until we stop (or until we’re stopped). We still want it to be a collective effort and a little more than just the two of us doing it all and you occasionally leaving a piece of art with us… BANG! Is next and please watch this space for news of the Spring programme, including the SPRING show on March First Thursday, the PRINT WEEK you print makes seem to want us to do, more THREE x THREE shows, and Emma’s YEASTIE GIRLS group show, that and an INTERNATIONAL FREE ART FRIDAY in late January where we invite some of the movers and shakers of the now international network to send over their creativity for a big bold Free Art gathering… we’ll tell you about all that in a moment…
