ART IS FOR LIFE, TIME TO PULL THE PLUG, OUR LAST VYNER STREET SHOW, COME GET INVOLVED….

Well I guess you missed yesterday’s blog about Cultivate’s time down Vyner Street  drawing to an end, here’s what’s happening…

Unless there’s a combination of some drastic fundraising married to some kind of positive indication that you artists actually want vibrant artist-run alternatives to the (often never open) gallery establishments  and art-fairs that (rather outrageously) charge us broke artists far far too much in terms of fees, monthly retainers and outrageous commission fees, unless something drastic happens, Cultivate, Vyner Street, will close on December 8th.

For the last twenty six or so months we’ve been giving a healthy mix of both contemporary fine artists and urban street artists a passionate platform within what we believe has been an exciting space to show and view art.  We’ve watched reputations grow, unknowns flourish, we’ve seen artists fly…  But we’ve repeatedly told you (warned you) that this needs to be more of a collective effort – we’ve covered all this in far more detail over the last week of daily blogging. That’s right, we’ve posting on a daily basis while the current Re-Up show has been on the Cultivate walls (please do go read the previous blog pages if you want to know more).

Skip past that photo of the busy street and our corner and you’ll find the last paragraph of yesterday’s blog and the closure announcement once again.  All good things have to come to an end, or at least evolve….

“And so, with all this in mind, and with the landlord being more than beyond reasonably flexible about late rent payments in recent times, we shall announce that we will extend the current Re-Up group show through the weekend until Sunday afternoon, we will then implement one last month of art in our Vyner Street space. November and the first week of December will be a kind of lead up to Christmas month of affordable art and related events – both in the gallery and in other spaces and (maybe) music venues near by, once again we will invite our fellow artist to come get involved in the final month of our artist-run space (watch this space, details very soon). And then, Cultivate, in terms of Vyner Street and our current gallery adventure, will close for good. We will finally close on the weekend after December First Thursday. We will close our doors for good , and (ceremonially) paint the white stenciled sign off the front on December 8th. We’ve had a blast, it has been a buzz, the good has far outweighed the bad, we’ve learned a lot, we’ll dissect it all later.

This is not the end of Cultivate for Cultivate has always been an idea, an evolving vision. The space we currently occupy is called “Cultivate, Vyner Street” because from day one, the idea was to move Cultivate around and for it to take different forms, shapes and sizes in different places…

I think we did okay. One last month then…. Long live artist run spaces

THE FINAL VYNER STREET SHOW….

culti_xmas2013_2The final show at our space in Vyner Street will be a three week affordable art event, a Christmas flavoured cornucopia of street art, fine art, pop art. We want one more show alive with smaller pieces of affordable Christmas present shaped art, but please do remember, art is for life not just for Christmas…

Artists who wish to be involved, should, as always, get in touch for full details…. info@cultivatevynerstreet.com – send us an e.mail and we’ll send you full submission details.

See you tomorrow, First Thursday, come re-up us, come see the art, bring your own drink, we’re skint….. oh and why not help with the fundraising and  buy yourself a chair, might only cost you a penny…
