ORGAN PREVIEW: Art can’t stop, Cultivate’s latest group show, #43Artists will open on Thursday night – It was never intended to be an alternative during the current lockdown and the lack of physical gallery shows and white walls and open doors and the noise pf opening night gatherings that we’re already missing, on line shows have always been viewed as an addition, a side serving if you will, a way to break out beyond London in terms of viewers, visitors and the artists invited to feature. #43Artists was something we were planning anyway, the only really difference the Corona virus thing has made to proceedings is that it has made us bring the opening night forward by two weeks.

We think #43Artsots will be the seventh on-line show from Cultivate and we think the 154th Cultivate show since that infamous Netll Market takeover here in East London back in the summer of 2011 that kicked it all off just before we opened that space in the middle of the very much missed Vyner Street (we think the number is something like 154 shows anyway, we might have missed on or two, it would have been show 155 if this damn virus hadn’t forced the cancellation of the show that should be happening right now at Shipton Street)..

Cultivate is mostly about actual physical shows in actual galleries, about pieces of art on white walls and paint that can be seen in the flesh, paintings that you can stand in front of, art than can be walked around – It would be fair to say we’re not big fans of on-line art or the obsession with instagram feeds or looking at and ‘liking’ things on line, we spend hours in actual art galleries on any given week (as you regular Organ readers will know) but there is a place for an on-line art exhibition and this will be our seventh

– our previous on-line shows have been visited or viewed by thousands of people from all over the world, indeed the previous shows still get views every day of the week. on-line shows are a valid side-serving to our main courses. and in our case the Cultivate on-line shows are great in terms of reaching out beyond the streets and artists of London, great in terms of introducing artists, including them in out shows and giving you the all important links to their websites.

We want #43Artists to be alive with exciting painters, maybe an installation artist or two, 3d artists, actually #43Artists is open to artists of all disciplines besides photography or digital art (nothing against either discipline and there are plenty of on-line outlets for both, this on-line show is not about digital art). We anticipate a healthy mix of contemporary art, painters, maybe a pop art flavour or two, a possible hint of the street, a sculpture or two, some installation. Watch this space as we gather together the 41 artists. who will join Emma and I to make up the 43 artist hat will make up #43Artists

The show is being curated by the Cultivate team of Sean Worrall and Emma Harvey, we are first and foremost working artists who just happen to be pro-active in terms of running a gallery and putting on our own artist-led shows rather than waiting around for something to happen. Cultivate has always been about us artists doing it ourselves rather than waiting for permission from the somewhat conservative London gallery system

#43ARTISTS will open on-line at 8pm UK time on Thursday April 2nd via the Organ magazine website and then stay there for weeks and months or maybe even years, once the exhibition opens there’s really no reason to close it …. Once again everyone is welcome to join us for the opening night, our “private views” as yuo hopefully now are never private…

The direct link to the show will be posted here on Facebook, Instagram, Vero, Ello and various other social media feeds at 8pm UK time on Thursday 2nd April
